What I Do
No one knows your business better than you. And no one else does a better job of telling your story or deepening your relationship with your clients. Joppa Communications helps passionate entrepreneurs attract more clients through honest marketing. We work together to determine the ideal marketing mix and to develop a sustainable marketing plan. I help you find your marketing voice so you can tell the story of your business in a way that is not only true to you, but resonates with the folks you want to reach.
How I Do It
![]() Joppa Clam Shanties (c. 1906)
At Joppa Communications, I get to play a lot of different roles. I am, first and foremost, a marketing mentor. But I am also a writer, storyteller, strategist, marketer, teacher and student. I know what it takes to develop a sustainable and effective marketing program. But all the knowledge in the world isn't going to accomplish much without the other half of the equation: you. When it comes to your business, you're the expert. My goal is to give you the tools and support you need so you can build a strong, vibrant business that reflects your personal values. My goal is to help you soar!
Why I Do It
I am inspired by my fellow entrepreneurs and love helping people share their stories. I took a bit of a nontraditional route to small business ownership, but I learned a ton along the way. A recovering attorney, I fled the law firm life to work in the nonprofit sector, which is where I cut my marketing teeth. Since then I have worked as a consultant with both small businesses and nonprofit organizations. I know what it is like to be self-employed. I know how challenging it is to work with limited resources. And I know how invigorating it is to come up with creative solutions to sticky how-in-the-world-am-I-going-to-do-that problems. I am fortunate to be able to help other entrepreneurs find their marketing voice. There is no other work I would rather do.
Where I do It
![]() The Clam Shuckers (c. 1905)
_Joppa Communications is headquartered in the Joppa neighborhood of
Newburyport, Massachusetts. A beautiful little city on the mouth of the
Merrimack River it was once known as a fishing, shipbuilding and
shipping center. Perhaps not surprisingly, it was also known for its rum
distilleries, which were in the center of the city near Market Square.
The merchants lived up on High Street, where the homes that once
belonged to ship's captains are easily identified by the widow's walk.
Joppa was home to fishermen, clam diggers, ship builders, blacksmiths
and coopers. In other words, it's where the creative folks and worker
bees lived. It is the perfect home for Joppa Communications.
| I Do It Right
I believe in supporting small businesses and in making socially responsible choices whenever possible.
I value the creative economy and am an active member of the Creative Economy Association of the North Shore. I believe in giving back to my community and volunteer with the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, Northeast Document Conservation Center and Our Neighbors’ Table. I believe in the power of honest marketing. And I believe in the creativity, passion and fearlessness of my fellow entrepreneurs!. We Do Newburyport Proud
Honoring our cultural heritage is part of what I do. So, I thought I'd share a few fun facts about my fair city. Newburyport is home to the first United States Coast Guard station. And the first Clipper ship was built right here in Newburyport. But the big news is this: in spite of what students across the country learn about the rebellion against the British Tea Tax and the policy of taxation without representation, that revolution started right here in Newburyport -- not Boston. It's that independent, revolutionary spirit that speaks to me!
